I am an amateur photographer in Southern California. My day job consists of being an ophthalmologist in Garden Grove, CA, (website OCOeye.com)Initially I used a point & shoot camera, a Canon PowerShot SD800 IS, which took great pictures 90% of the time but couldn't handle low light situations or moving objects, like race horses. In 2009 I upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark II camera and bought several lenses. For wide angle shots like nearby houses and barns I tend to use a 24-105mm lens and for more distant subjects like horses at the racetrack, I'll use a 70-200mm lens. In late 2011 I switched from a PC to an iMac and instead of Photoshop began using Apple's Aperture program. I also upgraded to the Mark III when it became available in 2012 and started using the more versatile 28-300 lens.

I have found the racetracks of Southern California to be great places to practice photography throughout the year. And in the summer I like to take landscape photos in my home state of Vermont (and occasionally the nearby racetrack in Saratoga, N.Y.) I am grateful to all the jockeys, trainers and railbirds who have allowed me to take their photo over the past few years.
